In February 2013, Yokohama Rubber announced that it will spend US$125 million by 2015 to expand its tire factories in the Philippines and Russia.
Yokohama Rubber plans to spend US$118 million by 2015 to expand the capacity of the Philippines tire factory, which is approximately 40 miles from Manila and operated by Yokohama Tire Philippines. Yokohama Rubber said that by the end of 2014, the plant's production capacity of passenger vehicles and light truck tires will increase by 25% to 1.25 million bars/year.
The Yokohama Rubber Philippines factory was opened in 1996. Its tires are used for export to North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. The factory can now produce tires with 18-inch diameter wheels. After the expansion, the plant will be able to produce wheel diameters up to 20-inch tires.
In addition, Yokohama Rubber will invest US$5.5 million in the expansion of the Lipetsk plant in southeastern Russia to meet the needs of the local market. The plant was put into operation last May and its tire production capacity will be ready for this summer's rainy season. It reached 1.4 million pieces/year.
