ZF: Will cut down on traditional machinery manufacturing jobs

    German automotive giant ZF believes that electric vehicles will have breakthrough development in the next 20 years. One of the negative impacts will be the reduction of traditional purely mechanical manufacturing jobs.

    Mr. Stefan Sommer, Chairman of ZF Group's Board of Directors, said in an interview with the media: "Machine manufacturing is the traditional strength of the German automobile industry. Our overall strength is no one in the industry, even if it is an obscure small part. However, If competitors in the market can meet the requirements of customers at a relatively low cost, our cost-effectiveness will no longer exist, coupled with the impact brought by the electrification of automobiles, it will inevitably cause German companies to reduce their work on machinery manufacturing.     However, Sommer also admitted that this kind of job adjustment will not be as dramatic as everyone thinks: pure electric power will take at least 10 to 20 years to replace the traditional internal combustion engine power. However, ZF has already prepared for this, and will use this time to complete the change of position in the group.

    It is reported that after ZF vandalized TRW TRW in May 2015, the total number of employees in the group has increased to 140,000, of which a considerable number are engaged in machinery manufacturing.

    Coincidentally, Continental Global President Elmar Degenhart revealed to the German "Sunday Le Monde" at the beginning of this month: "Since the added value of traditional internal combustion engine parts and components products continues to decrease, we must accordingly and gradually cut off related jobs. ”

    The mainland has 218,000 employees worldwide, of which 30,000 are directly engaged in internal combustion engines. The Continental Group stated that after cutting off the internal combustion engine related positions, a large number of positions on electric vehicles will be added.
