Digital transformation is breaking down silos one by one—and with better collaboration comes bigger questions.
Questions like: Can **owners and operators** optimize their assets today and reduce future costs? Can **design and engineering teams** share data without compromising intellectual property? Can **electrical engineers** adopt new tools and workflows to design for a future powered by renewable energy?
Three big questions. One answer: Yes.
At Autodesk University (AU) 2022, we unveiled new advancements that enhance collaboration and unify workflows across the teams that design, build, and operate the built environment. These updates are designed to help you work smarter, not harder. Keep reading to discover what’s new.
**Extending the value of BIM for owners and operators**
Data is becoming a key business asset, yet 95% of it goes unused in engineering and construction. That’s why Autodesk Tandem is helping owners and operators harness BIM data to create digital twins that connect operational systems within a 3D environment. This allows for real-time insights into facility performance, such as energy consumption patterns, enabling smarter decisions that improve efficiency and occupant experience.
With the upcoming public beta of Tandem Facility Monitoring, users will be able to link their building management systems and environmental sensors to gain continuous visibility into operations. This means optimizing energy use without sacrificing comfort.
**BIM insights and asset operations come together in one digital management solution**
The shift to remote work has made it more important than ever for building owners and operators to maximize efficiency and reduce costs. By integrating BIM with workplace and asset management software like iOffice + SpaceIQ, Autodesk is helping customers make smarter decisions and drive down both costs and carbon footprints.
The new Archibus and Autodesk AEC Collection Bundle offers centralized data management, allowing BIM data to inform operations and vice versa. This creates a more connected workflow that improves long-term decision-making.
**Info360 Plant brings operational analytics to the water industry**
As climate change accelerates, water and energy conservation are no longer optional—they’re essential. Info360 Plant is a cloud-based platform tailored for the water industry, offering real-time analytics and actionable insights to help plant operators manage resources more efficiently, reduce emissions, and ensure compliance.
**Increased cloud collaboration**
Cloud collaboration is at the heart of modern AEC workflows. With tools like Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro and Bridge, teams can share data securely while maintaining control over what gets shared. This reduces errors, streamlines coordination, and speeds up project delivery.
For civil engineers, the new Desktop Connector makes it easier to access Civil 3D data from anywhere, ensuring everyone has the most up-to-date information. Meanwhile, the improved Sheet Set Manager in Autodesk Construction Cloud simplifies documentation and enables seamless sharing with external stakeholders.
**Mobile access connects the office to the field**
Communication gaps between the office and field can lead to costly rework. The PlanGrid Build app helps bridge this gap by giving teams real-time access to project data, models, and issue tracking. With AutoCAD Web, field teams can review designs on any device and provide feedback directly on DWG files using the Trace feature.
**Teaming up for sustainability**
Sustainability is a top priority, and innovation is key. Autodesk partnered with Schneider Electric to develop Advanced Electrical Design for Revit, a tool that streamlines electrical engineering workflows and supports the transition to renewable energy. This integration helps engineers meet standards, reduce manual tasks, and improve energy efficiency—all within a single BIM platform.
**What’s next?**
At AU 2022, we also introduced **Autodesk Forma**, a new AEC industry cloud that unifies BIM workflows across planning, design, and operations. Plus, we announced a strategic collaboration with Epic Games to bring immersive real-time experiences to AEC, starting with Twinmotion for Revit.
These innovations are shaping a more sustainable, connected, and efficient future for the built environment. Explore the live and on-demand classes at AU, and stay tuned for more updates from Autodesk.
