Digital transformation is breaking down barriers and fostering greater collaboration—bringing with it more complex questions.
For instance: Can **owners and operators** optimize their assets today while cutting future costs? Can **design and engineering teams** share data without compromising intellectual property? And can **electrical engineers** adopt new tools to design for a renewable energy future?
These are three big questions, and the answer is a clear yes.
At Autodesk University (AU) 2022, we announced significant advancements aimed at improving collaboration and unifying workflows across the teams that design, build, and operate the built environment. Here’s what’s new.
### Extending the Value of BIM for Owners and Operators
BIM isn’t just for designers anymore. It's now a powerful tool for owners and operators too. With solutions like **Autodesk Tandem**, **iOffice + SpaceIQ**, and **Innovyze**, we’re expanding BIM support across the full building lifecycle.
#### Tandem Extends the Digital Thread to Facility Monitoring
Data is becoming a key business asset, yet 95% of it goes unused in construction and engineering. Autodesk Tandem helps change that by using BIM data to track and locate assets, connecting operational systems within a 3D environment or digital twin.
This year, we’re taking Tandem further by enabling facility monitoring. Customers can now link Tandem to building management systems and environmental sensors, giving real-time insights into energy use. This helps reduce costs and improve occupant comfort. The public beta for Tandem Facility Monitoring is coming soon.
#### BIM Insights Meet Asset Operations in One Platform
The shift to remote work has made efficiency and cost control more important than ever. According to Verdantix, 30% of facility executives are prioritizing cost reduction, and 22% are focused on decarbonization.
To help, we partnered with iOffice + SpaceIQ to create a unified platform for managing buildings. The new **Archibus and Autodesk AEC Collection Bundle** integrates BIM, building operations, and workplace software, allowing owners and operators to get more value from their data both upstream and downstream.
#### Info360 Plant Brings Operational Insights to Water Management
With climate change pressing, water conservation is no longer optional—it’s essential. Info360 Plant, a cloud-based analytics platform designed for the water industry, uses digital twins to help plant operators manage energy use, reduce emissions, and improve compliance.
It gives real-time insights to resolve issues faster, making water treatment more efficient and sustainable.
### Increased Cloud Collaboration
We’re investing heavily in cloud-based collaboration tools to help AEC teams streamline workflows, detect issues early, and speed up project delivery.
#### IP Protection with Project Sharing Advancements
Collaboration is key, but so is protecting intellectual property. Autodesk’s **Bridge tool** allows engineers to share only what they need, ensuring sensitive data stays secure. Firms can control what gets shared between accounts, reducing errors and risks.
#### Better Organization for Civil 3D
Civil engineering projects require strong data management. With the upcoming **Desktop Connector**, teams can access Civil 3D data faster from anywhere—whether online or offline. The new **Sheet Set Manager** also improves documentation management, making it easier to publish and share drawings from the cloud.
#### Mobile Access for Field Teams
Communication gaps between the office and field cost the U.S. over $280 billion annually in rework. The **PlanGrid Build app** and **AutoCAD Web subscription** help close this gap, letting teams access the latest designs, review models, and provide feedback from any device.
### Teamwork for a Sustainable Future
Climate change is driving innovation in energy generation and consumption. By 2040, 40% of global energy will come from renewables. To meet this shift, Autodesk partnered with **Schneider Electric** to create **Advanced Electrical Design for Revit**, helping electrical engineers design more efficiently and sustainably.
This solution streamlines workflows, reduces redundancy, and supports real-time calculations—all within a single BIM platform. It empowers engineers to drive long-term digital transformation and support a greener future.
### What’s Next?
At AU 2022, we also introduced **Autodesk Forma**, a new AEC industry cloud that unifies BIM workflows across planning, design, and operations. We also announced a partnership with **Epic Games** to bring immersive experiences to construction through **Twinmotion for Revit**.
These innovations are shaping a more connected, efficient, and sustainable future for the built environment.
