On January 6, 2012, the Water Metering Committee of the China Metrology Association held a "Preparation of a Working Group Meeting for Smart Water Meters" in Ningbo. High-level technical directors and general managers of many well-known water meter companies attended the conference. Director of National Water Meter Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Ningbo) Sun Mengxiang attended the meeting. The meeting mainly discussed and studied topics such as the research topic after the establishment of the smart water meter working group.

Before the meeting was discussed, the chairman Zhang Shihao spoke on behalf of the Water Metering Committee. He first expounded the purpose, significance, and main topics to be discussed of the meeting. Then he hoped that the participants in the conference could start from the height of the bottleneck in promoting the technological progress of the smart water meter industry in China and solve the bottleneck affecting the development of the smart meter industry. With their respective opinions, they have selected good R&D topics for the smooth establishment and healthy operation of the Smart Water Meter Working Group.
At the meeting, the participants gave extensive speeches on how to standardize the application of smart water meters, how to carry out efficient verification methods after the expiration of the smart water meter cycle, the use of new materials for the case, and remote meter reading using the power optical network platform. And discussion, and the smart water meter working group should focus on the preparatory work related to industry-related standards or regulations, the standard smart water meter product design, use, etc. reached a basic agreement.
During the discussion, the meeting proposed that the industry should pay close attention to: applications of smart grid information platform and Internet of things technology in remote meter reading and water supply network control, standardization of electronic remote water meter communication interface, research on new flow sensing technology, and intelligence. Water meter product quality and use reliability, product standardization design and use of specifications and other issues.
The meeting was finally concluded by the chairman Zhang Shihao. He hoped that the participants would report and communicate the main contents of the meeting to the responsible person of the company after the meeting, and continue to pay attention to and support the topic selection work of the smart water meter technical working group. As to which units are eligible to participate in the smart water meter technical working group, the chairman Zhang Shihao proposed to be decided collectively by the committee of the Water Metering Committee.
