According to foreign media, Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., the parent company of Yokohama, plans to make China the largest overseas tire production base by 2020.
By then, the company's passenger car tire capacity in China will exceed the Philippines, reaching 13.6 million, an increase of about 50% compared with 2016.
It is understood that Yokohama Rubber currently has two tire production bases in Suzhou and Hangzhou in China and a tire sales company in Shanghai.
In addition, the company has a rubber products factory in Weifang, Shandong and Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
Yokohama Rubber said it will invest 27 billion yen (about 1.65 billion yuan) to increase production facilities centered on the Suzhou plant.
It is reported that since 2013, the capacity of the Yokohama Suzhou plant has continued to increase. As of 2016, two factories in Suzhou and Hangzhou can produce 9.35 million passenger tires per year.
