The Countryside Fire Department in MABAS Division 4 has been conducting multi-day training sessions for its own firefighters as well as those from nearby departments. Two of the department’s newest units are currently on-site: the IHC/US Tanker 2,000-gallon tender and the IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine. Dan McInerney shared a series of photos from Wednesday’s training, capturing the action as crews put their skills to the test.
Dan provided a detailed account of the training setup:
"It's taking place in a two-story house located on a five-acre property. The home was built in 1948 and features masonry construction with lathe and plaster over true dimensional lumber. All three shifts from Countryside (CTYD) will be participating on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The CTYD POCs will conduct training on Thursday night. Other departments like Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Lincolnshire, and Riverwoods are sending an engine each day with their on-duty crews. Water is being supplied by the wildland engine from a portable tank, used for primary attack hoselines, while the tender serves as a secondary water source. The exercises include hose advancement and fire attack. Given the solid construction of the house, the fire simulations have gone well so far—upstairs rooms have endured a lot of stress, but they’re still standing. You just don’t build houses like that anymore! As a fun side note, there’s a house on an island in the middle of Countryside Lake that we plan to burn down eventually—but not during training. It’s only accessible by boat!"
