Countryside training with new rigs

The Countryside Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 4, has been conducting multi-day training sessions for its own firefighters as well as those from nearby departments. Two of the department’s newest units are currently on-site: the IHC/US Tanker 2,000-gallon tender and the IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine. Dan McInerney shared some great photos from Wednesday’s activities, giving a firsthand look at the training in action. Dan provided this detailed account of the training: "It's taking place in a two-story house situated on a five-acre property. The structure was built in 1948 and features masonry construction with lathe and plaster over true dimensional lumber. All three shifts from Countryside (CTYD) will be involved on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The CTYD POCs will also train on Thursday night. Other departments such as Lake Zurich, Wauconda, and Lincolnshire – Riverwoods are sending an engine each day with their on-duty crews. Water is being supplied by the wildland engine to the primary attack lines, using a portable tank for drafting, while the tender serves as a secondary water source. The exercises include hose advancement and fire attack. Given the house's construction, the scenarios are very realistic, and so far, the upper floors have held up remarkably well under the stress. These days, they just don’t build buildings like this anymore! As a fun side note, there’s a house on an island in the middle of Countryside Lake that we plan to burn down eventually—but not during training. It’s only accessible by boat!"
