Difference between wireless bridge and switch in wireless monitoring system

    In the process of building a wireless monitoring system, the switch is an indispensable part. Wireless bridges and switches are implemented at the data link layer. The role of the data link layer is to control data traffic, handle transmission errors, provide physical addresses (no logical addresses), and manage access to physical media. By using different link layer protocols, the wireless bridge can implement all the above functions. However, you may ask that the functions of wireless bridges and switches all work at the data link layer and have the function of data forwarding.     1. Wireless transmission function The wireless bridge is designed for the use of wireless (microwave) for point-to-point interconnection of long-distance data transmission. From the perspective of understanding the wireless bridge, it can be used to connect two or more separate network segments. These separate network segments are usually located in different buildings, which are several hundred meters to several tens of kilometers apart.

    The switch only has the function of packet forwarding and does not have the function of wireless transmission. Therefore, in the wireless monitoring system, the switch plays the role of signal concentration, and the wireless bridge implements the function of wireless video transmission.

    2. The difference in transmission rate Compared with the transmission rate of the data information between the switch and the wireless bridge, the switch is faster than the wireless bridge. At present, the transmission rate of the switch can reach 10 Gigabit, while the wireless bridge can only reach Gigabit at present.

    3, when the switch works, actually allows many groups of ports to work simultaneously. Therefore, the function of the switch reflects not only the function of a wireless bridge, but a collection of multiple bridge functions. That is, the wireless bridge is generally divided into two ports, and the switch has a high density of ports.

    4. Differences in segmentation capability Because the switch can support multiple ports, it is possible to divide the network system into more physical network segments, so that the entire network system has higher bandwidth. The bridge only supports two ports, so the physical network segment divided by the bridge is quite limited.
