Dongfang Motor successfully developed 20m laser length measuring system

Recently, a cutting-edge measurement system based on CMOS digital imaging technology was successfully implemented on the 20-meter laser length measuring machine at Dongfang Electric's key equipment. This breakthrough marks a significant advancement in overcoming long-standing technical challenges in large-scale precision measurement and length transmission for the company. The new system enables long-distance data acquisition and automatic analysis, providing a more efficient and reliable solution for quality assurance in the manufacturing of large-scale generators, such as those used in the Three Gorges Project. The development of the 20-meter laser length measuring machine dates back to 1996, when Dongfang Electric first introduced this advanced tool. However, as technology evolved, the original equipment began to show limitations, including limited functionality, low automation, and a lack of comprehensive software support. These shortcomings made it difficult to meet the growing demands of large-scale measurement projects, often requiring long waiting times and manual interventions. To address these issues, Dongfang Electric leveraged its internal technical expertise and collaborated with Edward Measuring Equipment Co., Ltd. to develop an automated image measuring system for the 20-meter laser length measuring machine. This new system uses CMOS digital imaging technology to monitor the line of sight in real time through high-definition displays, while also supporting remote control of the air-floating mobile slide. It enables long-distance data acquisition and automatic signal processing, significantly reducing the workload on operators and improving both detection accuracy and efficiency. The system is capable of handling a wide range of measuring instruments, including precision π rulers, steel tape measures, space machine scales, and precision screws. By integrating advanced imaging and automation technologies, the system not only enhances the performance of existing equipment but also positions Dongfang Electric as a leader in large-scale end measurement and line measurement technologies within China.
