The United Arab Emirates reported on June 3, 2014 that Dubai Customs stated that in 2013 Dubai's auto parts trade reached 40 billion dirhams (about 10.9 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 8% from the previous year's 37 billion dirhams. Among them, imports were 23 billion dirhams, an increase of 4%; exports and reexports were 17 billion dirhams, an increase of 13%.
Japan is the largest source of imported auto parts in Dubai, at 5.7 billion dirhams; followed by South Korea at 3.2 billion dirhams; China is third, at 2.8 billion dirhams; Germany is fourth, at 23 Billion dirhams. Dubai’s imports from the four largest auto parts trading partners were Dh 14 billion, accounting for 61% of total imports.
Dubai’s auto parts are mainly exported and re-exported to neighboring countries, Saudi Arabia’s largest, at 2.14 billion dirhams, Iraq’s second, at 1.1 billion dirhams, followed by Afghanistan’s 8.36.6 billion dirhams, and Oman’s fourth, at 5.6. Billion dirhams. Dubai’s exports and re-exports to these four major trading partners were 4.6 billion dirhams, or 27% of the total.
According to Ahmed Abdul SalamKazim, head of strategy and cooperation of Dubai Customs, Dubai Customs further promoted Dubai's auto parts trade by providing first-class customs facilities and services, simplifying and expediting clearance procedures, enabling traders to meet market demands without delay. Dubai Customs will also strengthen cooperation and coordination with private and public stakeholders to further improve service efficiency.
