The US Daily Science website published a report titled "Outdoor Lighting Using Wind Energy - Solar Hybrid Renewable Energy", as a result of ongoing research on hybrid renewable energy, a wind turbine generator with a reinforced shield An innovative outdoor lighting system powered by solar panels was installed at the Kuala Lumpur campus of the University of Malaya.
This hybrid green energy system is compactly designed to harmoniously integrate vertical axis wind turbine generators (VAWT), solar panels and light-emitting diode (LED) lighting systems with novel full-guide vane (ODGV) .
The ODGV consists of a number of guide vanes that have been carefully designed and installed around the VAWT to provide wind enhancement through the ODGV's guidance of the incoming air. This will create a Venturi effect that will enhance the airflow before it interacts with the turbine generator blades.
In addition, the unique ODGV design for the wind turbine generator rotors will provide a safer and more reliable environment for maintenance workers and the public. In the end, the ODGV design overcomes the problem of low wind speeds in the tropics, using wind deflectors to increase wind speed in all directions before the airflow enters the central part of the VAWT. To utilize solar energy, a solar photovoltaic panel is mounted to the top surface of the ODGV to generate solar energy. The green energy generated by this wind-solar hybrid system is used to power outdoor lighting systems.
The research team led by Zhang Wentong received a quasi-commercial prototype fund from the University of Malaya to develop the technology and install the product to the right place on campus. The name of the product is the wind energy of ecological green energy - solar outdoor lighting system.
