“Based on the strategy of continuously introducing innovative technologies in the gearbox market, as early as 2001, the gearbox control business unit of the Continental Powertrain Division began to study the competitiveness of plastics in the application of products and the management of molds. A lot of preparation work has been done,†said Jerome Worbs, global head of integrated mechatronics systems. “In 2014, we started manufacturing plastic molds in Nuremberg, Germany, and established a process R&D center. Just one year later, we were officially in China. Put into production and make all the preparations for serving local customers."
The integrated mechatronics product is a high-precision metal-plastic composite integrated with an electronic system, which has the advantages of light weight, miniaturization and stable quality. This investment by Continental not only brings the production line, but also the ability to design, mold and process development. Continental's gearbox control unit will be able to produce sensor assemblies, lead frame contact modules and other products locally.
