Local commercial vehicles rushed to the internationalization of SAIC in full cooperation with Iveco

When the beauty car in the pavilion captured the attention of countless cameras, outside the venue, some "big names" stood tall and proud, facing the rain and wind. These vehicles symbolize not just strength, but also the growing influence of China's domestic commercial vehicle manufacturers. SAIC fully embraces Iveco At the 10th Beijing Auto Show, Xiao Guopu, vice president of SAIC, and Paul Monferino, president of Fiat Group’s Iveco, shook hands and officially announced a high-profile strategic partnership between the two companies. This collaboration marks a significant step forward for SAIC in expanding its reach in the commercial vehicle market. Following the “Southern Cooperation” agreement, SAIC’s collaboration with Iveco through Nanjing Iveco has expanded from light trucks to medium and heavy trucks, covering everything from engines to full truck lines. Since 2006, SAIC has been working closely with Iveco, which brings advanced technology and a global sales network to the table. In December 2005, SAIC, Iveco, and Chongqing Zhongqi signed a cooperation framework. By September 2006, they jointly established SAIC Iveco Commercial Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd., with each party holding 50% shares. The company launched its first heavy-duty trucks in June 2007, followed by the establishment of SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. and SAIC Fiat Hongyan Engine Co., Ltd. With the signing of the Southern Cooperation agreement, Nanjing Iveco has become a new hub for cooperation in the domestic commercial vehicle sector. The latest strategy unveiled by SAIC and Iveco emphasizes the use of dual-brand positioning, allowing both SAIC Iveco Hongyan and Nanjing Iveco to leverage their strengths. While promoting IVECO products, they will combine local manufacturing with international standards to enhance cost-effectiveness and competitiveness. This approach is expected to boost the performance of the "Jinjin" medium truck and "Hongyan" heavy truck series. Paul Monferino also mentioned that Iveco aims to use China as a global export base. Not only will it bring advanced products to the Chinese market, but it will also leverage China’s cost advantages to increase exports through its overseas network. Additionally, it plans to develop high-quality suppliers within China. Monferino expects annual exports of 70,000 units from China. FAW and Dongfeng take center stage While SAIC was deepening its relationship with Iveco, FAW and Dongfeng took the spotlight at the outdoor commercial vehicle exhibition. FAW displayed six J6 heavy-duty trucks, showcasing the brand's new generation of high-end tractors equipped with air suspension systems. Models like the J6P 6X4 cement mixer and the J6 quasi-heavy platform model highlight the brand’s expansion into a broader product line. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle exhibited 12 complete vehicles and seven engines, including the newly launched Dongfeng Tianjin, an upgraded version of its medium and heavy trucks. It meets National III emission standards and can be upgraded to National IV. In 2007, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle sold 188,000 units, exceeding its target by 12%. The Tianlong and Hercules models alone sold over 23,000 units, setting a new record for new product sales. The brand also expanded internationally, entering over 40 countries, including Iran, Vietnam, Russia, and Algeria, building strong partnerships along the way.
