Local commercial vehicles rushed to the internationalization of SAIC in full cooperation with Iveco

When the beauty car in the pavilion captured the attention of countless cameras, outside the exhibition hall, some "big names" stood tall, undeterred by the rain and wind. These strong figures symbolize the growing power of China's local commercial vehicle manufacturers, showcasing their resilience and determination on the global stage. SAIC Fully Embraces Iveco At the 10th Beijing Auto Show, Xiao Guopu, Vice President of SAIC, and Paul Monferino, President of Fiat Group’s Iveco, shook hands tightly, announcing a high-profile strategic partnership between the two companies. This collaboration marks a significant step forward for SAIC, extending its cooperation with Iveco beyond light commercial vehicles to include light, medium, and heavy trucks. Since 2006, SAIC has been working closely with Iveco, leveraging its advanced technology and global marketing network. In December 2005, SAIC, Iveco, and Chongqing Zhongqi signed a cooperation framework agreement. By September 2006, both parties established SAIC Iveco Commercial Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd. with equal shares. The following year, SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. and SAIC Fiat Hongyan Engine Co., Ltd. were formally launched. With the signing of the “Southern Cooperation” agreement, Nanjing Iveco became a new hub for domestic commercial vehicle development. The latest cooperation strategy highlights the dual-brand approach of SAIC Iveco Hongyan and Nanjing Iveco, combining IVECO’s international quality with localized cost strategies. This will help boost the competitiveness of the “Jinjin” medium-duty trucks and the “Hongyan” heavy-duty truck series. Paul Monferino also emphasized that China would serve as a key export platform for Iveco. The goal is to bring advanced products to China while using the country’s cost advantages to boost exports. He expects annual exports from China to reach 70,000 units. FAW and Dongfeng Take Center Stage While SAIC was deepening its ties with Iveco, FAW and Dongfeng also made their mark at the event. FAW showcased six Liberation J6 heavy-duty trucks, highlighting the brand’s expansion into a full range of heavy-duty models. The J6P 6X4 cement mixer and J6 8X4 chassis represent the next generation of high-end European IV-compliant tractors. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle displayed 12 complete vehicles and seven engines, including the new-generation Dongfeng Tianjin model. This upgraded product meets National III standards and can be upgraded to National IV. In 2007, Dongfeng sold 188,000 vehicles, exceeding its target by 112%, maintaining its leading position in the domestic market. With over 23,000 units sold, the Tianlong and Hercules models set new sales records, enhancing Dongfeng’s reputation. Internationally, the company expanded to over 40 countries, establishing strong footholds in regions like Iran, Vietnam, Russia, and Algeria.
