Makers Inspire Crowds at Autodesk's "Making It" Design Night

In today's rapidly evolving world, innovation is no longer the domain of big corporations alone. From advanced manufacturing systems to cutting-edge digital tools like 3D printers and computer-aided design software, the landscape of creation is shifting. Everyday individuals are now embracing personalized projects, moving away from mass-produced items in favor of unique, creative expressions. Makers from all walks of life are emerging, bringing their ideas to life and sharing them with communities, fueling a wave of continuous innovation. Building on the success of last month’s Robotics-themed Design Night, this year’s May event centered around the theme “Making It.” The night kicked off with an inspiring talk by Mark Hatch, CEO of Tech Shop, who shared insights into the future of making and how technology is reshaping creativity. One of the highlights was the “Make a Creature, Take a Creature” station, where attendees used Autodesk 123D Creature to design their own fantastical beings—monsters, creatures, and masterpieces. These designs were then 3D printed and assembled into a large collaborative creature collage. Every participant left with a small, personalized 3D-printed creature as a memento of the night. Creature Guests also had the chance to build and take home a real birdhouse using laser-cut pieces designed with Autodesk 123D Design. Meanwhile, the Mycological Society helped visitors create their own mushroom-growing kits, offering a fun and educational experience. Otherlab and Instructables brought another interactive element with a laser-cut jewelry-making station, allowing participants to craft their own unique accessories. Bird House
Mushrooms Whether you're a seasoned maker or just curious about the possibilities of digital fabrication, there's something for everyone at these events. Join us again next month for June’s “Faster. Stronger. Tech-ier.” Design Night on Thursday, June 6, from 6 to 10 PM. Come explore, create, and be inspired!
