NXP Semiconductors is using NFC technology that is currently being studied for car manufacturers in the new mobile payment system built into the iPhone. Apple added Near Field Communication NFC to its latest smartphones and released the Apple payment system last month. NFC allows smart phones and other devices such as point-of-sale terminals to allow them to communicate wirelessly together. According to the dismantling of the apple by the maintenance company, NXP has led the NFC market and has provided new chips for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6. NXP declined to say whether it provided Apple's NFC chip.
The chip can also be used for Android phones, various cards, video game consoles and some tools. Freeman, a global car sales and marketing executive, said: "Apple's digital wallet has attracted the attention of automotive executives, and they are more interested in the potential applications between NFC and cars." Chip makers are designing NFC components for cars. In an interview on Wednesday, Freeman declined to disclose the car maker, and he expects the chips will start appearing in European luxury cars in 2016. NFC will not revolutionize automotive electronics, but it can make some of the better existing features that engineers are experimenting with with potential applications.
