· Sino-US car sales will occupy half of the world

According to a research report by the German Automotive Management Center (CAM), the Chinese and American markets play an increasingly important role in the automotive industry. Since 2010, total sales in these two major markets have increased by 12 million units, while sales in the Western European market have dropped by 900,000 units. Some experts said that in a short period of time, the sales volume in the US and China will occupy half of the world.
Research by the German Automotive Management Center shows that the most successful car companies have benefited from the growth of the Chinese market. The best example is the Volkswagen Group, which sold 37% of its worldwide sales in China in 2014, while the local Western European market accounted for only 31%. In 2014, Peugeot Citroen Group's sales in China increased by 32% in China, and the Chinese market accounted for 1/4 of its total worldwide sales. The Daimler Group’s sales in China also accounted for 29% of its total worldwide sales.
In comparison, the US market is more important to Japanese car companies. For example, Subaru's sales in the United States increased by 21% year-on-year, and more than half of the cars sold in the US market (56%). Toyota's US sales also accounted for 24% of its total worldwide sales. However, Ford's sales in the United States fell by 0.6% year-on-year, and even worse, Volkswagen's total sales fell 2% year-on-year.
Statistics show that in 2014, the world's largest 17 car companies total sales reached 74.9%, an increase of 3.8%. Among them, Daimler Group and BMW Group took the lead with 9.9% and 7.9% sales growth respectively. Volkswagen Group and Hyundai Motor, which are targeting the mass market, also achieved growth of 5.9% and 4.5%, becoming market winners.
It is reported that in 2015, the sales competition of the three major automobile groups will enter a new stage. In 2014, Toyota sold a total of 10.06 million cars, while Volkswagen sold 9.94 million. The German Automobile Management Center expects that Toyota's total sales volume will reach 10.25 million units in 2015, and will continue to maintain its leading position in the world. Volkswagen will rank second with sales of 10.2 million units, and the gap with Toyota will further narrow. Sales in the US market are hard to beat Toyota. Affected by the continued growth of the US market, GM is expected to achieve sales of nearly 10.2 million units in 2015, ranking third.
