The effect of adsorption on flotation

The forms of adsorption are various, but it has been experimentally found that the adsorption on the mineral surface can be basically divided into two categories: physical adsorption and chemical adsorption.
The determination of the type of adsorption depends primarily on the bond energy of the mineral surface and the nature of the adsorbate. It is often determined by physical adsorption and chemical adsorption based on adsorption heat, selectivity, activation energy, reversibility, and number of adsorption layers. The non-polar hydrocarbon (kerosine) adsorption molybdenite surface, because it is adsorbed by the forces occurring between the molecules, physical adsorption. At the beginning of the adsorption of hydrocarbyl sulfate (RSO 4 Me) on the surface of oxidized ore such as corundum , a single ion is physically adsorbed on the surface of the mineral by electrostatic attraction, but the adsorption amount increases as the concentration of the hydrocarbyl sulfate in the solution increases. Since the ions of the long hydrocarbon chain hydrocarbyl sulfate can be associated with each other by the dispersive force between the hydrocarbon group and the hydrocarbon group, the adsorption of a single molecule is converted into a half micelle adsorption.
If a condition for the formation of a hydrogen bond exists between the mineral and the agent, the surface of the mineral can also be physically adsorbed by the action of the hydrogen bond.
Chemical adsorption is caused by chemical bonds between the flotation agent and the mineral. The adsorption strength is large and selective. The chemically adsorbed xanthate when occurring in galena surface, due ROCSS - the chemical bond between Pb 2+ and S 2- galena surface caused. Xanthate anion with copper and lead sulphides cations under certain conditions can form a chemical bond, and therefore are likely to adsorb on their surface biochemistry. However, it cannot be chemically adsorbed with mineral surfaces such as quartz (SiO 2 ) because it is impossible to form a chemical bond between S 2 and SiO 2 . Therefore, chemisorption is selective.
The anion RCOO - of oleic acid and its soaps can also form a chemical bond with Ca 2+ and Fe 3+ ions.
It should be noted that there is a distinction and a connection between physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Oleic acid can be chemisorbed on the surface of minerals with Ca 2+ and Fe 3+ , but when the pH makes most of the oleic acid in a molecular state and the amount of oleic acid is large, oleic acid can be in the red iron. Physical adsorption occurs on the surface of minerals such as minerals, that is, physical adsorption of multi-molecular layers occurs outside the chemically adsorbed monolayer.
