When we use Google services such as search, Gmail, and maps, these data will be transmitted through the Internet to the Google Data Center. Therefore, the closer the data center is to us, the faster we will be able to provide a better experience.
The Google Taiwan Data Center is currently the largest data center Google has set up in Asia. Each component is designed by Google and uses different operating methods from other Google data centers around the world to provide effective and environmentally friendly operation.
The control of the Google Data Center was very tight. On the day of the ceremony, only a part of the area was opened for media photography. The ID must be worn when entering and exiting. Cameras can only be used for cameras and mobile phones and tablets cannot be used for photographing. Visitors at the information center maintain Google's style of openness. Even this very technical location has interesting features such as a sports car on the ceiling and irrelevant text on the walls.
Access to the data center room requires three levels: security gates, card readers, and retinal scans. The security check gate is to prevent employees from carrying the storage devices such as hard disks out of the data center, resulting in confidential leakage. Therefore, the metal objects on the body must be scanned. When entering the second level, you need to identify yourself by swiping the card. After entering the third level, you need to scan the retina to confirm the identity again.
At the inauguration ceremony, Google only opened a small part of the data center and the cooling water system for visits. When the second phase of the project is completed next year, Google may have the opportunity to visit other facilities.
