Daimler to invest USD 969 million in truck production in India


    Daimler India has announced that in the next five years, the company plans to invest INR 44 billion (US$969 million) in the production of trucks at the Oragadam plant in Chennai in southern India.

    The 400-acre Ocaladam facility will produce light, medium and heavy trucks with capacities ranging from 6 tons to 49 tons in the future, with an annual capacity of 70,000 vehicles.

    On March 18, Daimler Commercial Vehicles India announced that the company will begin production of these truck models from mid-2012.
