South Korea's Yongin Bayer Material Science has built a polymer technology center in South Korea to develop high-tech product applications for IT and automotive industries.

The new center in South Korea is located in Yongin City (near the capital Seoul) and is part of the company’s global network of R&D and application centers that cover major regional centers in the United States, Germany, and China.

Koenig Michael Koenig, a member of Bayer MaterialScience's Executive Committee and the global head of the Polycarbonate Business Unit, said: “In the past ten years, Korea has developed into a center of cutting-edge high-tech products. Large Korean companies have begun to provide the latest technology worldwide, but Their R&D work is mainly carried out in Korea. The new technology center will enable us to be closer to them geographically, better establish long-term R&D cooperation, and meet their needs in improving efficiency and speed.”

Bayer's major Asia-Pacific production bases in Shanghai, Mata (Thailand) and Niihamama (Japan) form a strong production network to support the new center. Demand for polycarbonate in Asia Pacific accounts for 60% of global demand.
