At the press conference, NelieCheng, director of global market development of the US Green Building Council, presented the LEED gold medal to Zhao Li, general manager of Beijing KFC. Mahesh Ramanujam, chief operating officer of the US Green Building Council and president of the Green Building Certification Center, said that the US Green Building Council has promoted the LEED certification system in China since 1998, in restaurant location, water/electric energy consumption control, building materials use, and indoor environmental quality. There is a complete set of standards and scoring systems. The certification is divided into four levels. The KFC Xuanwumen Restaurant is awarded a Gold Certification and needs to meet very stringent requirements in the above aspects and achieve a fairly high score.
Compared to the regular KFC restaurant, the green restaurant uses a lot of new equipment: such as the three-layer display cabinet with lower energy consumption, no need to change the electronic menu of the lamp and printed matter. In addition, the light source outside the dining area of ​​the restaurant is equipped with daylight sensing control to reduce the use of electricity.
At present, three restaurants in China's KFC have been certified. In the Chinese fast food industry, KFC is the only brand that owns LEED certified restaurants. According to reports, starting this year, the system has been promoted in all new restaurants and second-decker restaurants in KFC, replacing traditional lighting sources.
