Magna International has announced that its electronic business unit and its partner Mobileye have jointly developed a camera-based driver assistance system.
Two of the more serious cases of traffic accidents are rear-end collisions and lane departures. The driver assistance system developed by Magna International and Mobileye can effectively avoid forward collisions and can alert the driver when the vehicle is off the lane.
The system is to install a camera and an advanced image processor behind the windshield of the car. The role of the image processor is to automatically detect the lane mark. When the driver deviates from the lane, the system emits a yellow warning light and emits three beeps. However, when the vehicle's turn signal is turned on or the driver is too aggressive, the system cannot provide a warning function.
The system will serve as an alternative driving assistance system for the General Motors 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, and Magna International stated that the system will be put into production as soon as possible.
