During the visit to the Nanning Base of the Yuchai Engineering Research Institute, Shen Changyu emphasized that as the heart of the car, the engine's R&D and innovation capabilities are related to the progress of the entire national automobile industry. Yuchai must adhere to engine technology innovation and promote the “Made in China 2025†strategy to land in the power manufacturing field.
At the Yuchai Nanning Engineering Research Institute Base, Shen Changyu and his team first watched the Yuchai Group's promotional video, followed by a visit to the exhibition hall and the laboratory. Zhou Sunhai, vice president of Yuchai Group, reported the basic situation of Yuchai to Shen Changyu, and focused on Yuchai’s R&D and innovation capabilities.
Zhou Sunhai said that Yuchai attached great importance to R&D, built a high-level R&D innovation platform, cultivated a high-level R&D innovation team, continued to maintain a high R&D investment, and increased the proportion of high-tech product sales. It has created tremendous benefits for the company. Yuchai has state-level enterprise technology centers, national engineering laboratories, post-doctoral scientific research workstations, academicians, and specialist corporate workstations. It has established two research and development bases in Yulin and Nanning. R & D personnel include commodity planning, product design and development, process development, quality development and product application support, and its scale is nearly 1,000. In addition, Yuchai maintains high R&D investment every year, of which, the investment for R&D and innovation exceeds 500 million yuan in 2014.
Continuous investment in R&D, together with scientific management of innovation, has ensured that Yuchai’s R&D and innovation capabilities continue to increase. Zhou Sunhai said that Yuchai now has over 2,000 patents, of which multiple patents have filled the domestic gap. The number of Yuchai patent applications ranked first in Guangxi for nine consecutive years.
Shen Changyu strongly agrees with Yuchai’s emphasis on R&D and encouraging innovation. He said that economic development has entered a new normal and innovation has become the primary driving force for development. In the manufacturing field where the engine is relatively concentrated, the competition is extremely fierce. Yuchai must insist on innovation, change, and difference to seek survival and development in innovation.
