The reporter learned from the Shandong Provincial Department of Environmental Protection that starting from July 1st, PM2.5 and visibility monitoring in Shandong Province formally entered the trial operation stage. It is expected that the monitoring of PM2.5 and visibility will be announced to the public from October 1.

According to reports, in the first half of this year, Shandong Province determined that all 144 air monitoring sites in 17 cities would carry out PM2.5 monitoring work and select 2-3 sites in each city to carry out visibility monitoring. Starting from July 1, Shandong PM2.5 and visibility monitoring formally entered the trial operation stage. It is understood that PM10 has become the main pollutant of urban air in Shandong Province, accounting for 42.9% of the pollution load. Among these, PM2.5 occupies a large proportion.

On July 10th, the reporter learned from the Qingdao Environmental Protection Bureau that 18 PM2.5 monitors that were planned to be installed in Qingdao in the early stage have all been installed and have entered the trial operation stage. It is understood that the data collected by these monitoring devices are all linked with the provincial environmental protection department and even the Ministry of Environmental Protection. “We have already prepared well. We can issue monitoring data at any time according to the requirements of the Provincial Environmental Protection Agency.” The relevant person in charge of the Qingdao Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau told the reporter that Qingdao is the city that monitored PM2.5 earlier in the province and is currently located in Sheshan. The monitoring equipment on the roof of the EPA has been officially in operation for a period of time. Currently, one week of monitoring is released to technicians as one of the countermeasures against PM2.5 in the future. From the current monitoring situation, vehicle exhaust is an important factor affecting PM2.5.
