Trade Fairs, Foreign Wars, Foreign Capital Giants Digging Gold Car Aftermarket

At the 55th National Auto Parts Trade Fair, held from May 16 to 18 at the Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center, a growing focus on the "auto aftermarket" was evident. This term, frequently mentioned by exhibitors and industry experts, refers to the service market that emerges after a vehicle is sold, covering maintenance, repairs, and other related services. This year’s event attracted major players in the auto service sector, including well-known companies such as Mei Huai Huang Auto Fast Insurance Chain, Champion Oil from the U.S., and Singapore’s Wilton Petrochemical Company. These firms are all eyeing the expanding opportunities in the Changchun auto aftermarket. According to statistics, in overseas markets, parts sales account for 39%, manufacturing for 21%, retail for 7%, and services for 33%. In China, the figures show that accessories make up 37% of sales, manufacturing 43%, retail 8%, and services only 12%. This highlights a clear imbalance—China's automotive market still places more emphasis on manufacturing than on after-sales services. However, there's significant potential for growth in the service sector, with experts suggesting that improving after-sales services could increase market value by nearly 10%. The automotive aftermarket is still in its early stages, with many small workshops dominating the scene. Industry leaders believe that the market is evolving toward diversification and standardization, and relying on a single service model is no longer sufficient. Experts predict that by 2005, the output value of the auto industry will reach 42 billion yuan, while the maintenance sector could hit 40 billion yuan. At the conference, representatives from international companies emphasized their commitment to the Chinese market. They stressed the importance of understanding local needs and innovating to stay competitive. Meanwhile, domestic companies are also stepping up efforts to build strong brand identities and expand their service networks. Looking ahead, the automotive aftermarket is expected to become a key player in the industry. Trends suggest a shift towards brand management, a move from repair to maintenance, and greater integration of technology. With the rapid development of science and technology and changing consumer expectations, the after-sales service sector is set for transformation. As the market grows, both domestic and international players are actively seeking ways to capture a larger share. The competition is heating up, and the once-supporting role of the auto aftermarket is gradually becoming the main attraction. With new exhibitions, advanced service models, and increasing investment, the future of the automotive aftermarket looks promising.
