Late last night, I received this report from Larry Shapiro regarding an incident involving Prospect Heights firefighters. It seems that around 9 PM on Monday (November 9, 2015), they were called to 702 S Elmhurst Road for a fire at a vacant house. Interestingly, just earlier that afternoon, the same building had been used as a training site by the firefighters. According to the police, there was significant smoke with fire spreading in the attic.
In response to the Code 3 alarm, firefighting units from Wheeling, Long Grove, and Arlington Heights also joined in. Thanks to their swift action, the fire was successfully contained within half an hour, and it never breached the roof.
I've included some images and a video below to give you a better idea of what happened. The photographs capture different moments from the firefighting efforts, including firefighters working under challenging conditions at night and even cutting through the roof with a chainsaw.
There’s also a shot of FD Lieutenant Patrick Leahy, who played a crucial role during the operation. And of course, there's the aftermath, showing the extent of the damage left behind.
