The largest domestic aniline plant was designed
On December 5th, Ningbo Wanhua Polyurethane Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane Co., Ltd., officially signed an engineering design contract with the Second Design Institute of Chemical Industry for the construction of nitrobenzene, aniline, and nitric acid production facilities. This marked the official start of the construction of Ningbo Wanhua's 360,000-ton-per-year aniline plant, a major step forward in expanding its chemical manufacturing capabilities.
According to reports, the second phase of the aniline project will utilize the world’s most advanced adiabatic nitration process. Compared to traditional isothermal nitration methods, this technology offers enhanced safety, a more compact design, lower energy consumption, stable operation, easier control, and longer online operation times. The Second Design Institute has already successfully implemented this process in a 150,000-ton-per-year aniline facility designed by Tianji Group, which was launched in September 2005 and remains the largest such unit in China today.
The new aniline plant, developed jointly by the Second Design Institute and Ningbo Wanhua, is expected to become the largest aniline production facility in the country. With the expansion of the Ningbo Wanhua MDI plant and the completion of the second stage of its MDI production line, along with the existing Yantai Wanhua MDI plant, the total annual production capacity will reach 600,000 tons. Given that approximately 80% of aniline is used in MDI production, the new aniline facility will significantly reduce the pressure on raw material supply for MDI manufacturing.
This development underscores Ningbo Wanhua's strategic efforts to strengthen its position in the global polyurethane industry. By integrating advanced technologies and optimizing production processes, the company continues to drive efficiency and sustainability in its operations.
