Various handles and basic operations of horizontal lathes
Adjusting the C6132 lathe is primarily done by moving the respective handles, as illustrated in Figure 6-7. This process allows for smooth operation and precise control over the machine's functions.

2. Basic Operation of a Horizontal Lathe
(1) Practice in Parking (Set Spindle Reversal and Stop Handle 13 to the Stop Position)
1) Correctly adjust the spindle speed. By changing the shift handles 1, 2, or 6 located on the outside of the gearbox and headstock, you can achieve different spindle speeds. If the handle feels stiff, gently turn the chuck with your hand to ease the movement.
2) Properly change the feed rate. Check the label on the feed box based on the desired feed amount, then adjust the positions of handles 3 and 4 accordingly. This ensures the correct feed rate is selected.
3) Learn the direction of rotation for the vertical and horizontal manual feed handles. Use your left hand to hold the longitudinal feed handwheel 17 and your right hand to hold the lateral feed handle 7. Rotate the handwheel clockwise or counterclockwise to control the movement of the carriage and cross slide.
4) Understand how to operate the longitudinal and lateral movements. The light bar or screw replacement clutch 18 should be in the correct position. To perform longitudinal feeding, lift the longitudinal motorized feed handle 16. For transverse feeding, lift the transverse motorized feed handle 15. Lowering them stops the movement.
5) Tailstock operation. The tailstock can be manually moved and secured using bolts and nuts. Turning the tailstock sleeve handwheel 12 allows the sleeve to move within the tailstock. Then, lock it in place by turning the tailstock locking handle 11.
(2) Before practicing at low speed, make sure all handles are in the correct positions and perform the driving practice carefully.
1) Start the spindle – start the motor – let the spindle rotate – stop the spindle – shut off the motor.
2) Motorized feed – start the motor – spindle rotates – manual vertical feed – motorized vertical feed – manual retraction – transverse feed – manual retraction – stop the spindle – close the motor.
Notes:
1) Never change the spindle speed while the machine is still running. Doing so may cause serious damage to the spindle gear system or even lead to an accident. Always check the handle positions before starting the machine.
2) Be careful not to move the vertical or horizontal handles in the wrong direction. Pay special attention to rapid movement, as incorrect handling can result in damaged workpieces or safety hazards.
3) When using the horizontal feed handle for one grid, the tool moves 0.02 mm horizontally, which means the cutting depth along the diameter is 0.04 mm. This precision is essential for accurate machining operations.
