I just received these photos from Eric Haak, who captured the intense scene of a second-alarm fire at MABAS Division 7 in Momence last Sunday morning. The fire broke out in a large manufacturing plant, measuring 150 feet by 300 feet, which featured a truss roof design. This facility specialized in producing freeze-dried vegetables, fruits, and herbal ingredients, and the extent of the damage is quite evident in the images.
The sheer scale of the blaze is striking, with massive flames engulfing the structure. It's clear that this was a significant firefighting challenge for the local emergency services. The use of truss roofs, while cost-effective, can pose unique risks during fires due to their structural vulnerabilities.
