Area fire departments hold open houses

Over the past few weeks, several local fire departments held open houses filled with fire safety demonstrations, exhibits, apparatus displays, fun activities, food, and more for families. Here are some highlights and photos from Mundelein, Long Grove, Lake Zurich, Cary, Buffalo Grove, and the Moraine Valley Fire College. This report comes to us from Sam Borica. He shared some photos from the Mundelein Fire Department's open house. They’ve recently acquired a brand-new 2012 Ford Medtec ambulance to replace their older unit, number 432. There were also pictures of an extrication exercise and their beautiful antique fire engine.    Meanwhile, Martin Nowak sent in photos from the Moraine Valley Fire Safety Day. North Palos was there providing fire demonstrations, and Tinley Park helped out with fire extinguisher training. Larry Shapiro captured some great shots at the Long Grove Fire Protection District Open House. The event was a big hit with residents, who enjoyed the various demonstrations and displays. The turnout was impressive, with lots of interactive exhibits and educational opportunities for attendees.
