This is from Steve Redick:
Earlier today, I witnessed something truly remarkable at 4225 N Knox Avenue. A worker who was up on a massive water tower suddenly experienced a medical emergency and couldn’t get down on his own. The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) responded quickly with a full technical rescue team. Their Truck 23 managed to reach the base of the tank using the aerial platform, which allowed them to transport both personnel and equipment to the worker's location.
Once they were at the same level as the worker, the firefighters set up an anchor point and used a safety harness system to assist him in descending the gooseneck ladder from the top of the tank to the catwalk below. To my surprise, the victim seemed to be handling much of the descent independently, but the firefighters were there every step of the way to ensure his safety. From what I could tell, the operation went smoothly and without any major complications.
I’ve attached some photos below that really capture the scene and the teamwork involved. You can see the full photo album [here]. It’s moments like these that remind me how incredible first responders are—always ready to spring into action when people need help the most.

This experience really left an impression on me. It’s not every day you get to see such skilled professionals in action, especially in such a challenging environment. If anyone has more details or updates about the worker’s condition, I’d love to hear them.
Take care,
Steve
