The firefighters from the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District (FPD) and the Wheeling Fire Department recently conducted joint training exercises focused on aircraft rescue and firefighting at the Chicago Executive Airport. This collaborative effort was aimed at enhancing their skills and readiness to handle emergencies involving airplanes, ensuring they are better prepared to protect lives and property in the event of an aviation-related incident.

As part of this intensive training session, participants had the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art firefighting vehicles such as the Rosenbauer America Timberwolf equipped with a bumper turret, and the E-ONE Titan 4x4 ARFF. These advanced vehicles played a crucial role in simulating real-life scenarios, allowing firefighters to practice techniques like extinguishing flames near aircraft and safely evacuating passengers.

One particularly challenging aspect of the training involved firefighters entering a mock aircraft that was set ablaze, practicing how to navigate through smoke-filled cabins while rescuing trapped individuals. Another key exercise saw teams utilizing hand lines to battle fires close to airplanes, emphasizing teamwork and precision under pressure.
