The Village of Buffalo Grove, in collaboration with the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band and the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, held a heartfelt public concert to honor the 10th anniversary of the tragic September 11, 2001 attacks. The event took place in memory of the lives lost in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Local leaders, including Congressman Robert Dold and a U.S. Army General, shared reflections on the significance of the day, with the general describing the events as a "tragic accident" that changed the course of history.
To pay tribute to the first responders and victims, the Buffalo Grove Fire and Police Department Honor Guard participated in the ceremony. A bagpiper from the Chicago Highlanders Pipe Band played *Amazing Grace* during a solemn bell-ringing moment, adding a powerful sense of remembrance. The fire department also conducted a traditional bell ringing ceremony, symbolizing the enduring spirit of those who served and sacrificed.
Local Boy Scouts joined the Honor Guard in posting the colors, while members of the community gathered to reflect on the importance of unity and resilience. Veterans and active military personnel were acknowledged and thanked for their service, making the event both moving and inclusive.
Larry Shapiro captured several poignant moments of the evening, including the Honor Guard preparing to post the colors, the flags crossing before the ceremony, and the emotional performance by the bagpiper. His photos highlight the deep respect and gratitude felt by the community.
