In the manufacturing sector, transformation is accelerating at an unprecedented pace. The global pandemic and ongoing economic fluctuations have revealed vulnerabilities across the entire industry. Manufacturers are now rethinking and redesigning their supply chains on the fly. With rising customer expectations, a growing skills gap, and rapid technological change, many feel uncertain about what the future holds.
Yet, despite these challenges, manufacturing continues to grow globally. Innovation often emerges from necessity.
The past few years have made one thing clear: to stay competitive and take advantage of this growth, manufacturers must embrace digital technologies. Cloud computing, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) offer companies the tools they need not just to survive, but to thrive in an unpredictable environment.
At Autodesk, we've always been at the forefront of technological change. Ten years ago, we launched Autodesk Fusion with a vision to unify the traditionally siloed processes of product design and manufacturing. We continue to invest in that vision, bringing together design, simulation, electronics, manufacturing, and factory operations into a seamless, cloud-based environment for businesses of all sizes.
Last year, we introduced the Fusion Industry Cloud — a comprehensive, connected solution built on our Design and Make Platform. This end-to-end system unifies people, data, technologies, and workflows from product design through to shop floor operations.
**Fusion Industry Cloud: Streamlining the Entire Design and Manufacturing Process**
Fusion revolutionizes how organizations design and produce by eliminating the barriers created by disconnected tools that hinder information flow between teams. As the first platform to integrate CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB design capabilities while connecting PLM, PDM, and MES systems, Fusion streamlines every stage of the product development and manufacturing lifecycle.
Traditionally, manufacturers used multiple tools across different stages of development, requiring constant handoffs between teams. With Fusion, everything is integrated. Changes in one workflow are instantly reflected everywhere, ensuring no one works with outdated models. This saves time, reduces errors, and enhances collaboration.
At the core of Fusion is our powerful cloud-based data model. This model enables customers to automate and streamline their workflows. Our AI leverages this same data to eliminate repetitive tasks, allowing employees to focus on more creative and strategic work.
Today, data flows seamlessly between Revit and Inventor, Inventor and Fusion, and even Inventor and AutoCAD. And with our APIs, partners and third-party developers can also build on top of Fusion.
**AI from Design Studio to the Shop Floor**
Fusion continues to harness the power of AI throughout the entire product development lifecycle. We were the first to introduce generative design for manufacturing over six years ago, and we're now expanding AI’s role in automating repetitive tasks, analyzing shop floor operations, and enhancing creativity.
We recently acquired BlankAI, bringing cutting-edge generative AI technology into our automotive design studio tools. This allows industrial designers to create 3D concepts in milliseconds, drawing from a company's library of past designs to generate new ideas that align with existing styles and guidelines.
Another major advancement is Automated Drawings. Documentation has long been a time-consuming task, taking up to 80% of an engineer's time. Starting this year, Fusion will allow users to generate fully dimensioned 2D drawings from 3D models with a single click.
Additionally, the CloudNC CAM Assist Automation Add-in for Fusion translates 3D models into machining strategies in seconds, helping reduce tool programming times by up to 80%.
**Expanding Capabilities Through Partnerships and Acquisitions**
We’re excited to announce several new features that enhance Fusion’s value and improve design and manufacturing workflows.
- **Cadence Integration**: By integrating Cadence’s PCB design tools into the Autodesk ecosystem, data can now flow seamlessly between Fusion and electronic design systems.
- **Acquisition of FlexSim**: Autodesk has acquired FlexSim, a leader in discrete event simulation. This integration helps optimize production processes, from planning and design to operation.
- **Configurations**: A powerful new feature in Fusion allows for the creation of multiple product variants from a single model, without the overhead of managing multiple files. Changes are stored in a centralized database, making them faster and easier to manage.
**Rivian Gains a Competitive Edge**
This new way of working is already giving companies like Rivian a significant advantage. Rivian uses Fusion for rapid prototyping, Revit for facility design, and Autodesk Alias and VRED for immersive virtual design reviews. By leveraging the cloud, they’ve improved efficiency, agility, and innovation across their entire organization.
**A More Powerful Fusion Offering**
Fusion is more capable and valuable than ever before. We’ve updated our pricing structure to reflect the enhanced features and customer feedback. For full details, visit the Fusion Blog.
