Top 5 factors to consider when adding EV charging

EVBox is working toward a greener future where charging your electric vehicle is as simple as finding a parking spot. Employees like Travis Walker, our North American Business Development Manager, are helping make that vision a reality.

More people will be buying electric vehicles than gas cars by 2030, according to the Boston Consulting Group this year. Travis shows company leaders how investing in EV charging can prepare you to not only survive but thrive — and lead in your market — as more of your customers and employees switch to electric vehicles.

Travis has always been passionate about renewable energy and its potential to benefit both the planet and businesses. He built his career at one of the top residential solar companies in the country before joining EVBox. At EVBox, he finds joy in removing obstacles and helping others reach their full potential.

If you're considering adding EV charging to your location, Travis recommends taking a step back and understanding these five key factors before making a decision:

    1. Reliability

The biggest concern for many drivers switching from gas to electric vehicles is “range anxiety.” They worry they won’t find a charging station when they need it or that the station might not work with their car.

That’s why reliability is essential. When choosing an EV charger, make sure it works with all types of EVs — like the new EVBox Iqon Level 2 charger. This universal compatibility ensures you can serve all drivers, not just a select few.

Also, look into the charger’s track record. Does it have a history of consistent performance? Choose a reliable brand known for quick and helpful customer support, says Travis.

    2. The Right Number of Charging Stations

The ideal ratio of public EV charging stations to EVs on the road is one station for every four vehicles. But right now, there's a big gap — over 300,000 stations short, and it's expected to grow to 1.3 million by 2025.

To determine how many chargers you should install, check the number of EVs being sold in your area and compare them to existing charging maps. If you’re an employer, ask your staff how many own or plan to buy an EV.

EVBox can help you decide the best number of stations based on your location and business needs. “If you have more than 100 parking spaces, aim for at least 10% dedicated to EV charging,” Travis suggests. “Without that infrastructure, you risk losing customers who could’ve used your charging stations.”

As more people go electric, places with reliable and accessible EV charging will become must-visit spots for drivers.

    3. Station Placement

When placing EV charging stations, two main factors matter: power availability and visibility.

Chargers need to be close to power sources to keep installation costs low. “The closer the charger is to the power source, the better,” Travis explains.

Your EV parking spots should also be easy to see when drivers arrive. Unlike gas-car drivers, who just need a place to park, EV drivers want to know immediately that they can charge while they shop, dine, or work.

High-visibility charging stations show your commitment to sustainability and innovation — and even encourage gas-car drivers to consider going electric.

    4. Network Flexibility

Some charging providers lock you into one network. Others, like EVBox, offer flexibility. With OCPP interoperability across all our chargers, including the EVBox Iqon, you can choose and change your software platform without replacing hardware.

This freedom helps save time, money, and headaches. You’re not stuck if a provider raises prices or goes out of business. You can switch to a new software solution easily.

By offering choice, we promote competition, innovation, and fair pricing. As a founding member of the Open Charge Alliance, EVBox is committed to giving customers the power to choose.

    5. Long-Term Value

EV charging stations are exposed to weather and daily use. To get the most out of your investment, choose a durable and long-lasting product, says Travis.

The EVBox Iqon is built to last, with a weatherproof design and a strong steel and aluminum structure that can withstand shocks and harsh conditions.

Long-term value also means choosing a company that will be around for years. EVBox has installed over 200,000 charging ports worldwide, including in the U.S. and Canada. With the Iqon, we’ve created a flexible, user-friendly charger designed to meet your needs for years to come.

    Air Preheaters (APH)

An air preheater (APH) is a device used to heat air, commonly used in industrial boilers, thermal power plants, and other thermal energy facilities. APH improves the thermal efficiency of the boiler by transferring heat from the flue gas to the air entering the boiler through heat exchange with it.

APH usually consists of a Heat Exchanger with a number of parallel pipes inside the exchanger through which smoke and air flow to allow heat exchange. In APH, the smoke flows on the outside of the heat exchanger and the air flows on the inside so that the heat between the smoke and the air can be transferred through the pipe walls.

The main business scope is various heaters, waste heat boilers, pressure vessels, supportingair preheaters, air coolers, furnace accessories and accessories, and provide equipment installation, with EPC ability of projects. At present, our customers have covered all large and medium-sized petrochemical enterprises in China and established long-term strategic cooperative partnership with them. Products are exported to Southeast Asia, Middle East, and other regions.
