The Chicago Tribune reported on a 2-11 alarm fire that broke out this morning, involving a Chinese restaurant on the city’s West Side. Nearly 100 firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze, which quickly spread from the one-story restaurant to two adjacent buildings that housed second-floor apartments, according to officials.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident, which appears to have originated in the restaurant located near the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Harrison Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The Chicago Fire Department confirmed the details, noting that the fire was fueled by tar on the roof, allowing it to spread rapidly despite steady rainfall.
The fire started around 3 a.m. and took nearly three hours to be fully under control, with crews working through the early morning hours. Fire Department spokesperson Richard Rosado explained that the flames moved to two neighboring buildings, making the situation more complex. A total of 99 firefighters were on the scene, utilizing multiple strategies to bring the fire under control.
