Dennis McGuire, Jr. visited the Homewood Acres Fire Department on Tuesday and shared a number of photos along with some details about the department's current status.
**Notes:** The department is not yet fully operational, but they're making progress. Training is ongoing, and they currently have 15 volunteer firefighters.
The old Engine 1932, a 1972 Ford-John Bean pumper, has been sold to a man in Grant Park, Illinois, who owns a pawn shop in Flossmoor. It’s scheduled to leave tomorrow morning (at 5:30 AM) and will be transported to the pawn shop for use as an advertising piece. As a side note, this truck runs on gasoline. This engine had a long and varied history, serving first with the East Joliet Fire Department, then Holbrook FPD, and finally Glenwood Fire District in Illinois.
The new Engine 1932 is a 1985 Ford-Pierce pumper that came from Plainfield, Illinois. The department is still deciding whether to paint it or keep it in its original white color.
Another vehicle, a Ford from Country Club Hills, was scrapped a few months ago and replaced by a 1986 Mack-Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois—this one is now designated as Engine 1934, previously known as Engine 208.
One of the photos Dennis sent shows all three engines lined up together, which makes for a striking and informative image.
These images give a good look at the current fleet of the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District as of May 29, 2012.
