Homewood Acres FPD update

Dennis McGuire, Jr. visited the Homewood Acres Fire Department on Tuesday and shared a collection of photos along with some details about the department's current status. **Notes:** The department is still in the process of getting up and running, but they're making progress. Training is already underway, and they currently have 15 volunteers on board. The old Engine 1932—a 1972 Ford-John Bean pumper—has been sold to a man in Grant Park, Illinois, who runs a pawn shop in Flossmoor. The truck will be picked up tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM and transported to the pawn shop, where it will be used as a form of advertising. (It’s worth noting that this engine has a gas-powered motor.) This vehicle had a long and varied history, serving first with the East Joliet Fire Department, then Holbrook FPD, and finally Glenwood Fire Department. The new Engine 1932 is a 1985 Ford-Pierce from Plainfield, Illinois. The department hasn’t yet decided whether to paint it or leave it in its original white color. Another engine, originally from Country Club Hills, was scrapped a few months ago and replaced by a 1986 Mack-Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois, which is now designated as Engine 1934 (previously Engine 208). One of the photos Dennis sent shows all three engines lined up together, creating a unique and interesting visual. These images give a nice snapshot of the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District’s fleet as of May 29, 2012. It’s clear that the department is working hard to build a strong and capable team.
